They have been working together for a couple of years already, but the relationship between Montreal-based Smooch and Copenhagen founded, but San Francisco-based Zendesk, has taken the next step.

Yesterday, Zendesk announced that it had acquired the Montreal company known for its powerful business-to-customer messaging platform for an undisclosed amount. Zendesk was part of an impressive list of Smooch customers which also included Oracle, Four Seasons, Uber, LiveChat, Betterment, and many more.

Zendesk is a customer service and engagement software company that has been growing significantly since going public in 2014, and this is its fifth business acquisition. The company brings 140,000 customer accounts and 3,000 employees to the deal which become valuable resources for Smooch to continue pursuing its mission of delivering the best human customer experience.

Many are pointing to the synergies that Smooch will be able to create for the open CRM platform that Zendesk launched last year called Sunshine. By doing so, the two companies will be able to develop an even more powerful tool for businesses to communicate with their customers and obtain better insights into the large amounts of data.

Despite the acquisition, Smooch will continue to operate from its office on Casgrain in the Mile-End district of Montreal, and as the founders note in their blog post, “nothing changes today from the Smooch you know”.
